Your Saturday Coffee 03/16/2024

Good morning!

Welcome to your morning coffee! May our Heavenly Father draw us ever closer to His side, there with Jesus, filled with He who lives within us, the Holy Spirit. Father, help us to stop back from the routine of our day to day living, and test ourselves as to how much or how little we are trusting you. Father, our trust in you, our faith in who you are and what you have done and promised to do, it is the foundation for our every thought, feeling, word, and deed. How easily and how often we forget the need for and usefulness of such trust! Father, in the name of Jesus, by the Spirit in us, help us to pause today and consider how we have been trusting in you. We trust you Father, help us to trust you! Amen.

Your Morning Scripture: Mark 10:13-16

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

...

When was the last time we trusted God so fully and completely that we looked foolish to the world? When was the last time we responded to even the most meager of struggles and pain with the solid sort of trust that cannot be built on sand? When was the last time felt God's strengthening hand both resting on our shoulder and giving rest to our souls?

The first moments in the new heavens and the new earth will be greeted by shouts of joy that there find their fullest end, and found their beginning here and now, when the children of soldiers were surprised by their parent's return.

We are God's kids. And as we are called into His kingdom, we come as children, who trust.

How's your trust in God right now? Anything in your life tempting you to question God? That's okay. Any doubts grasping and grabbing at your trust in our Father? It's alright. We're all in this together.

We're all going to struggle to return to the child-like faith to which Jesus first called us. We grow up, we hurt, we struggle, we mess up, we stumble and fall. We mistake child-like for child-ish, and forget that the foundation of our relationship with God was made by Him, laid by Him, paid for by Him, and remains by Him, holding us close to His side, forever.

As we have been welcomed into His kingdom, and long to see it with our own eyes, longing for it even as we are in it, let us trust Him.

We are God's kids. We belong to Him. He belongs to us only because He has decided it should be so. He can be trusted. He must be trusted. He is the only one who can be trusted. His Kingdom is the only kingdom. His love is the only love.

And He will never fail us or betray us or abandon us. That is the horror and the tragedy of so many earthly fathers who have done these awful things. It is a reflection of our Heavenly Father that if I were to hurt one of my children, to betray them or abandon them, they would be shocked. It would make no sense to them (thank our Heavenly Father for helping me to be such a father). Their whole world rests on my trustworthiness. And so I am a reflection of, an introduction to their Heavenly Father. That is why I and all godly fathers must be quick to apologize to their families, which is the only way to honestly confess that we are not THE Father.

Child of the Father, may your every thought, every feeling, every word, every deed, all rest on the Father in the way of the child who trusts without question. And when questions arise, such a child runs to their Father, and hides nothing from Him.

Trust like a child today. And if you cannot, then like His child, tell Him and ask Him to help you. And I promise you, He will.
