Good morning!

Welcome to your morning coffee! May our Heavenly Father deepen our dirt-under-our-fingernails understanding of His goodness. Father, no matter what is going on in our lives, whether good or bad, happy or sad, help us to choose joy in your goodness. In the name of Jesus and by the Spirit keep calling out to us that your goodness is greater than any other thing in our lives. Help us Father. Amen.

Your Morning Song: "The Goodness" by TobyMac (ft. Blessing Offor)

Your Morning Scripture: Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good,

a stronghold in the day of trouble;

He knows those who take refuge in Him.

...

How good is God? What does His goodness mean? In the many places and spaces of our everyday lives, what good is God's goodness? In the day of trouble, what good is the goodness of God?

Perhaps we've talked about it here before. I know that it has come up in many conversations that I've had with others. And it has been something I talked about with the children at our church. God's goodness. Why is it important that God is good?

God is everywhere, knows everything, and can do anything. And that's bad. That is a horrible, unsettling thought. I can't escape Him. He knows all my thoughts. There's nothing He can't do me. That's scary.

Unless He is good.

God's goodness, the moral perfection of His character, His being, infuses and undergirds all of His other qualities. In His perfect presence, His perfect knowledge, His perfect power, He is also perfectly good.

In God's goodness I can trust Him, I can rest in Him, I can run to Him. I can rejoice with Him and thank Him. I can weep in His arms when my broken heart breaks again. I can wait with Him for a day when all brokenness is gone, for good. I can rest in His perfectly good presence, trusting that no matter what happens, He is good.

God is good. And there's nothing better than that.

No matter what our day of trouble may be, no matter what hurt hides in the hidden places and spaces of our daily living. God is good.

And that is enough for me. No matter what.
