Good morning!
Welcome to your morning coffee! May our Heavenly Father remind us of who we are, and whose we are. Father, we are yours. Everything we have is yours. Everything we don't have is yours. There is no one and no thing that escapes your authority. Help us to remember that. Help us to rest in that. Father, in Jesus's name help us to enjoy what we have and take care of it, but not to compromise who we are for it. Amen!
Your Morning Song: "If I Stand" by Rich Mullins
Your Morning Scripture: Proverbs 28:6
Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity
than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.
...
One of my children was being bad, and when she was confronted, she didn't care at all about her behavior. Instead, she focused on the thing she wanted that she had been bad about. The thing. Having it. Keeping it. Don't want to talk about anything else. Just the thing. Want it. Want it. Want.
And so I said, "Stop. No. Who you are, is more important than what you have."
When it comes to the material things we each have been blessed with, how we have them is more important than what we have. God care mores about who we are, than what we have. And so even though money matters, it does not matter most. Integrity matters more, to God.
Someday, when this world is said and done, and all is made new, God's faithful children will be rewarded. We who are faithful will not be rewarded with the things of this world, but rather we will be rewarded for how we acted while in this fading world, dealing with its fading things.
What moves about within you when God stirs up the deep waters of your heart? Like the deep foundations of the great mountains of the earth, how do we live our everyday lives? Do we pursue God's holiness by living with Spirit-led, Spirit-fed integrity?
Or is what we have more important than who we are?
