Good morning!

Welcome to your morning coffee! May our Heavenly Father remind us again of how great He is, and how much He loves us. Father, our lives can be hard, and scary, and difficult. We need you! We need you for our heartbeats and our breaths. How much more so do we need you for the ins and outs of our everyday lives. Remind us of your nearness to us, of your love for us, of your purpose and plan for us. Father, in the powerful name of Jesus, give us freedom from fear, so that all we have left to do, by your wonder-full side, is let. it. go. Amen.

Your Morning Song: "Fear Is A Liar" by Zach Williams

Your Morning Scripture: Isaiah 41:9-10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

...

What is God's response to our fear, our anxiety?

You could argue, unbiblically, that fear is a small, silly thing that we should just all get over. You could say, though counter to what God says, that fear isn't that big of a deal. But what about how often the Bible says not to fear? Arguably 365 times, one for each day of the year. Just get over it, right? Stop being emotional and ridiculous.

That's not how God understands our fear and our anxiety.

God does say, repeatedly, fear not. But why? Why not be afraid? Why not stress and be anxious? Why not assume the worst and then flagellate yourself with imagined slights and theoretical outcomes? Why not fear?

God's answer to this question also tells us exactly what He thinks of our fear.

God says not to be afraid, because He is with us. God is the greatest possible answer to the greatest of all possible questions. God does not see our fear and our anxiety as a small thing. He does not scoff at us and mock us saying, "just get over it." Instead He answers our fear and anxiety with Himself. He takes our fear seriously.

God is with you. He loves you. He has come running after you, in your sin and your terror and your self-worship, and invited you to become one of His children. He will hold you up Himself and fill you to overflowing with His own strength. He will keep you close to His side, because He loves you. And in God's house, in God's kingdom, in God's family, there is no room for fear, no space left open for anxiety.

What are we afraid of?

Is it greater than our God?

Is it stronger than our God?

We have been given everything we need not to live in fear, not to be ruled over by anxiety. Why are so many of us so crippled by fear? Why are so many of coping and playing mind games with our past, present, and future, because of fear? Why are we trying to escape into food, movies, shows, books, friends, money, anything just to cover over our fear? Like sweeping spilled milk under the rug. A fear-full, anxious life is sour with the smell of perpetual, repeating soul-death.

God is with you. To continue to live in fear and anxiety is to deny His presence, His power, and His love for you.

Stop it. Go into a secret place and pray. And let it go. Because you can. Because He is with you and commanded you to let it go. He will help. He has helped you. He will always help you. He will give you everything you need to set fear aside and reject the self-made shackles of anxiety.

The only thing He won't give you is any excuse not to live fearlessly, free of anxiety. May He be the only one we fear.
