Good morning!

Welcome to your morning coffee! May our Heavenly Father be the daily delight of our hearts' desire! Father, we want more of you. Help us to want more of you! We need you desperately and daily. May our hearts be turned towards you, to prayer, to reading your wondrous word. In the name of Jesus and by the power of the Spirit help us to delight ourselves in who you are, Father. Draw us ever closer to you!

Your Morning Scripture: Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires of your heart.

...

What in the world does this mean? If we're happy with God, he'll give us whatever we want? A car? A house? Winning the lottery? This is one of those verses that can be very easily twisted into saying something that it isn't saying. But it is fair to say that at first glance, this verse seems problematic.

What is it really saying?

If we delight in the Lord, the idea is that our hearts desire him, who he is, what he wants, what he says, etc. God is promising to give himself to us.

In the end, God will give to each of us the desires of our hearts, whether for eternal life and love, or eternal punishment and shame. But if we make the choice to delight in him, to embrace and enjoy him and entrust our hearts to him, then he will pull us close and sing over us and hold us close to him forever.

Is this how you live your daily life? Delighting in God as he draws near to you? If you're anything like me, somedays you try delighting in lesser things.

May we daily delight in who God is and what he says. And rejoice whole-heartedly when he draws near to us to give himself to us. Let our desperate dependence on Jesus daily be the source of our satisfaction.
