Good morning!
Welcome to your morning coffee! May our Heavenly Father remind us, afresh and anew today, of how great and wonderful He is. Father, we daily forget your great power. There is no part of our life that you can't see and help us with. May we think and move and breathe according to your great will, and not our own meager one. Father, in the name of your Son Jesus, by the Spirit, help us to be mindful of you and your nearness, and your greatness. So that we might be more faithful to you in all things. Amen.
Your Morning Song: "Awesome God" by Rich Mullins
Your Morning Scripture: Psalm 65:5-8
5 You answer us
with awesome and righteous deeds,
God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas,
6 who formed the mountains by your power,
having armed yourself with strength,
7 who stilled the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
and the turmoil of the nations.
8 The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
where morning dawns, where evening fades,
you call forth songs of joy.
...
My oldest child is almost a teenager. And she's very tall. It's been a long time since I held her in my arms. And I can tell that the memory of me holding her has faded and blurred. So, I will occasionally just walk over to her, without a word and pick her up and hold her like a baby. She always laughs and there's something in her eyes that changes, like a subconscious tension fading away.
Don't get me wrong. One of these days I'm going to hurt myself picking her up like that. But until that day, I will continue to remind her how big and strong and safe I am for her. Because I can tell that she's forgetting, and I don't want her to. But she will. In the grand scheme of things, I'm not that big or strong.
That's okay. I was always just meant to be an imitation anyway.
May we never forget how big and strong God is.
When our hearts break and our bones ache with struggle and sorrow, God is bigger. When uncertainty and worry rob us of peace and deep breaths, God is bigger.
Even in our celebrations, we often celebrate too small, and shout with joy too quietly. God is bigger!
Our daily life grows dim with a lack of perspective. With a blindness to the greatness and the nearness of the God who made the entire universe, and by His permission and power, sustains it.
May we think and feel and speak and do, with an eye to the true scope and scale of God's greatness. We cannot escape it. And I don't want to.
But we can become blind and deaf to it.
May we not want to.
