You Are the Salt of the Earth

You Could Be, If You Are...

Matthew 5 Series

You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. Matthew 5:10

You Could Be the Salt of the Earth, If You Are a Flavor Enhancer

Salt Enhances Flavor

Saltiness comes from submission. If you've lost your saltiness (or never had it), get born again.

John 3:3-8 tells us: Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?”

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

You Could Be the Salt of the Earth, If You Provide Preservative & Decay Prevention

Salt Preserves and Prevents Decay

Instead of complaining about societal decay, ask God how you can engage culture and prevent decay.

Consider Proverbs 25:11: A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.

You Could Be the Salt of the Earth, If You Offer Nutritive Value

Salt Is a Nutrient

Experience how following and worshipping Jesus can be a "building up" nutritious experience for yourself and others.

  • IDENTIFY people in your life.

  • CONNECT & ENGAGE with these people.

  • BUILD a foundation of prayer as you connect and engage.

Intentionally put into practice 1 Corinthians 14:3:

...On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.

Who in your life needs to experience the flavor of Christ?

Who in your life is struggling with sin?

Who in your life needs you to be an answer to their prayers?

These words from Jesus' prayer for us, recorded in John 17, apply:

"I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours... And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one...

While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled...

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
