Least or Greatest?

Will You Be Called "Least" or "Greatest" in the Kingdom of God? Matthew 5 Series

Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19

"Well, I could never..."

Limiting or Life-Giving?

We tend to use grace to relax God's commandments because we believe they limit our life.

Devote some time to reading and comparing these two sections from God's Word, one from the Old Testament and the other from the New Testament:

  • Deuteronomy 4, 5, 6

  • Matthew 5, 6, 7

"...But I'm not a teacher!"

We teach by how we live; and we learn the best by teaching.

Consider 1 Peter 3:15-22: But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed[c] to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.

"Well, I never..."

Call me anything you want, just don't call me great in the Kingdom.

  • If you don't want to become great in the Kingdom, maybe you don't fully understand what the Kingdom of God is!

  • God has a dream for you; God's dream is to call you great in His Kingdom!

  • What if God WANTS to call you something different than you call you?

Applications for Your Life

  1. GOD'S COMMANDMENTS DON'T LIMIT LIFE.

  2. YOU'RE A TEACHER; BECOME A GOOD ONE.

  3. GOD WANTS TO CALL YOU GREAT IN THE KINGDOM; DO YOU?
