He Came to Fulfill

He Came Not to Abolish But to Fulfill Matthew 5 Series

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matthew 5:17

Jesus Want to Help You Fulfill Your Call

Your Every Human Being Works in Fulfillment

God has wired us to see needs which need to be fulfilled.

Genesis 1:28-30 tells us: And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Good Fulfillment vs. Bad Fulfillment

Some fulfillment brings bondage; other types of fulfillment bring freedom.

Consider Galatians 5:19-21: Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do[b] such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

And Galatians 5 continues, in verses 22-26:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

We also read in 2 Corinthians 10:4:

For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

The Next Step Beyond Love & Flesh Is Your Calling

Walk out of your flesh and walk with freedom into your calling.

Here's more truth from Galatians 5, verse 1:

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery...

The world will burden you with:

  • worry

  • cares

  • addictions.

God sets us free to fulfill our calling to live by faith, expressed through love. Galatians 5:6b

Get READY to GO!

Here are some practical examples of the application of this truth:

Too many sweets?Tell your soul to heel and sit!

Craving afternoon coffee?Drink water and eat some fruit.

Distracted by phone notifications?Turn them off.

Find inspiration in 1 Corinthians 9:26-27:

So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
